MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - India’s cotton exports to the world’s leading consumer, China in August, 2015, saw a slump of 79.59 percent to 3,456 tons compared 16,933 tons in the corresponding period last year, as per official customs data.
During the first seven months of the current fiscal (January-August), India exported around 180,659 tons cotton to China, down 75.31 percent compared 731,793 last year same period.
However, China imported 22,334 tons of cotton, 34.82 percent more from the same month last year. while between January-August period, U.S. cotton imports in China rose 9.34 percent on year at 494,712 tons. The major factor behind the higher imports from the U.S is that average spot rate of U.S. cotton in the month of August were hovering in the range of 60-64 cent, lowest of all the other countries.
China’s cotton imports from Brazil in August also showed a slump of 76.99 percent to 1,247 tons. But, during the first seven months between Jan-August, China imported around 76,219 tons of cotton from Brazil, up 103.65 percent on year.
China’s cotton imports in the month of August, 2015 recorded a slump of 65.76 percent to 70,019 tons compared to same month last year, while it imported 1,109,351 tons of cotton between Jan-August, down 40.93 percent compared to last year same period, showed official customs data.
However, China’s cotton yarn imports rose 38.25 percent to 2.77 million tons in August on year, customs data showed.
