New Delhi (Commoditiescontrol) - Heavy crop loss is being reported in Punjab. According to the reports of a Bathinda based private agency, cotton crop is damaged in nearly 1.20 lakh hectares in the state of which farmers have destroyed their crop in 45,000-50,000 hectares area.
The agency has surveyed the losses due to whiteflies attacks, use of fake seed and unwanted pesticide. Reports warned further damages to the crop. An anonymous source informed that the BT seed provided by the government agency to the farmers were fake.
Besides, pesticides distributed among the cotton growers were also adulterated. Cotton crop didn’t get damage by whiteflies as much as it was caused by fake seed and adulterated pesticides, according to the source.
On the other hand, many farmers union of the state have sought compensation from the government at Rs. 40,000/ha for the loss of cotton crop.
