MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its weekly crop progress report for the week ended 13th September, 2015 rated U.S cotton crop 13 percent poor/very poor, slightly higher than last week’s 12 percent.
About 52 percent of the crop is rated good/excellent, below 53 percent a week ago period, the report showed.
According to the report, 4 percent crop reached harvesting stage, which is below last year’s level of 6 percent and five year average of 7 percent.
Nearly 46 percent of the crop in all the states is at bolls opening stage compared to 49 percent a year ago period and five year average of 51 percent.
In Texas, around 42 percent of crop was seen in good to excellent condition during the week. On the whole, crop has reached harvesting stage in many regions of the state, though in few areas the harvesting was slowed down due to scattered rains. Dryland cotton needed rain, but crop in irrigated areas are in good shape. Reports suggest that cotton ginning has started in south Texas.
