NEW DELHI, Nov 18 (Commoditiescontrol) : India’s cotton crop is projected at 350 lakh bales of 170 kg each for the season starting October 1, 2022, higher by 40 lakh bales from last year’s crop size, Ahmedabad based ARUNKUMAR & Co, said in its latest estimate.
In the year-ago season (2020-21), the country's total cotton production stood at 310 lakh bales.
Giving state-wise estimates, ARUNKUMAR & Co said the production in Gujarat is projected at 95 lakh bales for the 2022-23 season. Maharashtra is estimated to produce 85 lakh bales, while the output in Telangana and Karnataka are estimated at 48 lakh bales and 25 lakh bales, respectively.
The brokerage has estimated the total cotton supply till end of the cotton season 2022-23, that is up to September 30, 2023 at 399 lakh bales, which is 3 lakh bales less compared to 401 lakh bales estimated for the last season.
The total cotton supply consists of the opening stock of 41 lakh bales at the beginning of the season, crop for the season estimated at 350 lakh bales and the imports estimated at 8 lakh bales, it said.
The domestic consumption is estimated at 313 lakh bales, while the exports for the season have been estimated at 35 lakh bales.
The export estimate for the previous cotton season 2021-22 was 41 lakh bales.
The carry-over stock is estimated at 51 lakh bales.
