New Delhi (Commodities Control) –The government agencies across the country has already procured over 430 lakh tonnes of wheat directly from the farmers at minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,975 per quintal and procurement process is still going on in some states.
The Food Ministry recently revised the estimated procurement target of wheat for the current rabi marketing season (RMS) 2021-22 from 427.4 lakh tonnes to 433.4 lakh tonnes after Bihar increased its target from one lakh tonnes to seven lakh tonnes.
As on June 16, government agencies procured 430.79 lakh tonnes of wheat which includes 132.10 lakh tonnes in Punjab, 84.93 lakh tonnes in Haryana, 55.54 lakh tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 128.09 lakh tonnes in Madhya Pradesh, 4.56 lakh tonnes in Bihar, 22.32 lakh tonnes in Rajasthan,1.44 lakh tonnes in Uttrakhand, 17000 tonnes in Chandigarh, 6000 tonnes in Delhi, 1.21 lakh tonnes in Gujarat, 13,000 tonnes in Himachal Pradesh, 24,000 tonnes in Jammu&Kashmir.
Several states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttra Pradesh have procured wheat more than their target. Currently, Some of the states including Bihar is procuring wheat from the farmers. If Bihar achieves its target of seven lakh tonnes, the total procurement will cross the estimated target.
