WORLD COCOA PROSPECTS

Drier weather in West Africa cocoa areas during November through December
favored the mature main crop and harvesting. Dryness and hot weather will need
to be watched at this time of year. This may impact the second crop if
Harmattan winds develop. Recently showers have been reported in the area. This
should reduce the risk of damage due to seasonal Harmattan winds.
Episodes of scattered showers will favor cocoa trees through the southern
portion of the east Africa region at this time.
Episodes of scattered showers in key growing areas of Indonesia and Malaysia
continue. Conditions mostly favor development of cocoa at this time.
Mostly favorable conditions for the main crop harvest in Bahia Brazil. The
midcrop is developing. More rain would benefit.
