WORLD COCOA PROSPECTS

Some increase to stress on cocoa trees in west Africa due to above normal
temperatures and little rainfall. At this time of year we will also be watching
for Harmattan conditions or hot, dry winds. A weak harmattan is indicated at
this time, indicating increased stress on trees in the north and east areas.
The east Africa cocoa areas are seasonally drier and somewhat hotter in
northern areas at this time. The central locations have also recently trended
drier and warmer. The south has seen periodic shower activity but is looking
drier and somewhat hotter at the current time.
A drying trend may be of some concern in Indonesia and Malaysia at this
time.
The main crop cocoa harvest in Bahia Brazil continues. The mid crop is
flowering. Rain is needed.
