WORLD WHEAT PROSPECTS

Favorable moisture conditions for developing winter wheat in the southern
plains. Planting progress is running behind normal but is improving.
Favorable moisture conditions for developing wheat in central Argentina.
Colder temperatures through key winter wheat areas of Ukraine, west and
south Russia during this week will slow development of the crop and possibly
induce dormancy. Recent rainfall has helped recharge soil moisture in key
growing areas, after late summer dryness concerns and heat.
Mainly favorable conditions for planting winter wheat and development
through western Europe at this time. Recent rains have slowed planting progress
in the east while greatly improving soil moisture following drier and hotter
late summer weather. Dryness and drought it of increasing concern in Spain and
of some concern in Italy.
Drier, warm to hot weather may favor late filling winter wheat in Western
Australia but this favors the maturing crop at this time. Recent rainfall and
cooler temperatures will favor late filling wheat through southern New South
Wales and Victoria. Drier weather remains a concern for immature wheat in South
Australia. Drier weather favors mature wheat and the harvest in northern NSW
and southern Queensland...although this is likely a drought reduced crop.
Mostly favorable moisture and temperatures for winter wheat planting and
early development through the North China Plain.
