WORLD WHEAT PROSPECTS

Favorable conditions for heading and filling wheat over eastern portions of
the southern plains. More rain would benefit in some western areas.
Favorable conditions for developing spring wheat in the northern plains.
Wheat planting in the Prairies continues with some delays due to showers.
Dryness has been of some concern in Manitoba and southeast Saskatchewan.
However, recent and forecast showers should help to ease concerns in the area.
Mostly favorable soil moisture for reproductive to filling winter wheat in
Ukraine and south Russia due to winter and early spring precipitation. A recent
turn to dry and very warm weather concerning in western areas of Ukraine as
rainfall during the past 60 days is less than 50 percent of normal.
Mostly favorable conditions for reproductive winter grains in Europe at
this time. Showers in Spain and Portugal may be unfavorable for maturing winter
wheat.
Recent rain through the North China Plain may be somewhat unfavorable for
maturing winter wheat and could delay the harvest. Drier weather during this
week will be more favorable.
Light to locally moderate showers may help improve conditions for planting
and early development of wheat in western Australia following prior very dry
conditions. However, more rain is needed. Recent beneficial rain for wheat
planting and development in southern Queensland. Dryness in northern New South
Wales slowed wheat planting and hampered crop develolpment. Scattered showers
in southeast Australia favored planting and development.
