Days 1-3: Light showers with locally heavier in southwest Kazakh and southern
Urals today. Dry or with only a few light showers favoring the southern Urals
Thursday. Mainly dry Friday. Temperatures average above to well above normal
south, near to above normal north, today and Thursday. Cooler in the north and
during Friday.
Days 4-6: Dry or with only a few light showers during this period.
Temperatures turn cooler, much cooler through eastern areas.
Favorable conditions for filling and maturing spring wheat in the northern
Shower activity will maintain favorable growing conditions for some spring
wheat areas of the Canadian Prairies but some also remain too dry and may miss
these showers.
Spring wheat areas from the Volga valley of Russia through Siberia and
northern Kazakh should have caught up to normal development as it is has
recently been fairly warm and in some cases hot. Favorable soil moisture at
this time for spring wheat. Some heat stress this week in the southwestern
growing areas of the spring wheat belt.
Dryness during the spring has likely impacted winter wheat prospects in
north-central and northeast Europe and Scandinavia. Dryness may also impact
spring wheat in these locations, however more rain has recently occurred in
much of this area.
Prior drier, warm to hot weather across the North China Plain favored
mature winter wheat and harvesting.
A continued below normal rainfall pattern in northern New South Wales and
southern Queensland increases the risk to winter wheat in the region. Scattered
showers developed in the area during the past couple of weeks but more rain
will be needed to ensure more favorable development of this crop. Prospects for
wheat areas of West and southeast Australia remain good at this time.
