WORLD RICE PROSPECTS

A recent increase in scattered thundershower activity through portions of
Indochina should help improve conditions for dry season rice crops. The region
has turned drier and somewhat hotter again early this week, more typical for
this date.
In the Philippines a somewhat drier, warmer weather pattern has become
established this week. This may increase stress to late development of spring
planted crops and reduce available moisture for the planting of summer crops.
The Rabi rice crop is in the final stages of the harvest in east and south
India at this time, benefiting from seasonally dry and hot weather. Planting of
the Kharif crop will be increasing during the coming weeks.
Increasing rainfall and warm temperatures will favor development of early
rice crops in China.
