Implats Hopes to Not Throw Money Down the Shaft -- Market Talk

23 Feb 2017 6:03 am

0603 GMT - Safety challenges continue to impact the performance and profitability of Impala Platinum's (IMP.JO) Rustenburg operations in South Africa, the company said in its F1H report. The company turning unprofitable came amid troubles there, some of the world's oldest and deepest platinum mines. Anglo American Platinum (AMS.JO) recently sold its own aging Rustenburg operations to Sibanye Gold, which is expected to report a much-bigger FY profit later Thursday morning. Implats is investing in several of the shafts at Rustenburg, hoping for a similar turnaround. (alexandra.wexler@wsj.com; @alexandrawexler)
