Australia Sugarcane Weather - Apr 23

23 Apr 2017 10:05 pm
Northern New South Wales and southern Queensland
Highlights: Mostly dry or with only isolated very light showers during the
weekend period. Temperatures near to below normal.
Days 1-3: Mainly dry Monday. Scattered light to locally moderate showers
develop during Tuesday and end during Wednesday. Temperatures may be warmer
Monday but it should turn cooler again Tuesday and especially Wednesday.
Days 4-5: Mostly dry. Temperatures average below normal.
Drier weather in key sugarcane growing areas of Queensland Australia will be
mostly favorable at this time, after heavy rain and wind associated with a
strong tropical cyclone at the end of March.
Mostly favorable conditions for developing cane in Sao Paulo Brazil.
However, a recent drier trend is of some concern.
Periods of scattered rains may slow the harvest of old crop sugarcane
through southern China while improving soil moisture for planting and
development of the new crop.
Showers in sugarcane growing areas of Ganges plain and far south India
during the winter period will have favored development of early planted new
crop while causing only minor field work delays. The sugarcane belt has turned
drier and hotter again more recently.
Sugarcane areas of southeast Africa have again turned drier and much warmer
since late last week. Seasonal rainfall has averaged below normal in some
sugarcane areas which may impact final production numbers.
Seasonal to above average rains through the southeast Asia region will favor
sugarcane production but may delay the harvest.
