MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) – Guarseed prices fluctuated in a narrow range last week, but still managed to close tad up despite weak cues like monsoon progress, correction in crude and decent stocks in the country.

The gain in prices were mainly attributed to possibility of reduction in sowing area due to lower prices of Guarseed against many other attractive alternatives.

Guarseed is mainly cultivated in rain fed area of Rajasthan, Haryana and Gujarat.

Farmers in Rajasthan, Haryana and Gujarat likely to shift mainly to Moong, Moth and Tur due to better prices. Further government has raised minimum support price of kharif pulses sharply to promote farmers.

Commoditiescontrol team recently visited 50 kilometres areas from Rajgarh to Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan) and find more than 80 percent of area were covered under moong followed by Bajra. There is hardly any farm visible under Guar cultivation.

A farmers located based in Rajasthan near border of Haryana said “The lower prices of Guarseed has forced them to look for other better alternatives.”

However Guarseed sowing mainly starts from July and as farmers are applying pulses in most fields there would be lesser area will left for Guarseed.

In Haryana Guar Area Likely Replace By Bajra, Tur, Maize And Lentil
Farmers in Haryana are not preferring Guar crop and they are replacing Guar cultivation area with Bajara, Tur, Maize and Lentil. Generally Haryana is considered as supplier of best quality splits. Industries located in Haryana likely to depend on Rajasthan for their requirements, which could led to increase in raw material cost to them. Industries located in Siwani will not affected, but industries located in Bhiwani, Hissar and Adampur will face some supply problem.

Guar Area To Shrink In Rajasthan As Well
In recent year Gaur was cultivated in Punjab. But farmers are saying good bye to Gaur. Most of area is replaced by the Rice/paddy crop some area has gone under Lentil and Maize.

Gujarat Gaur Cultivation Area Will Drop
In Gujarat farmer will also replace Guarseed crop with other kharif crop like Cotton, Bajra and Groundnut. Share of Gujarat in Guar cultivation area will drop up to 7-8%. Farmers have totally demoralized due to lower prices of Gaur in the local market.

Current Situation
Industries are purchasing Gaur seed regularly. Most of Gaur split mills, which are more than 4-5 years old are running in full capacity. Farmers are regularly carrying material to mills. Industries are processing it and selling Churi Korma at higher rate. Some new industries like Korma roasting, grading, cleaning and shorting as come in existence and they are using latest technology for shorting and roasting. There is full-fledged export demand of Guar Korma and Churi.

There is regular demand of Gaur seed in market at current rate. The crushers involved in crushing at present don’t want its prices to shoot up due to poor off take in Guargum.

There are some unconfirmed reports that local companies have purchased the Guargum from market. Around 3000 metric tonnes of Guargum split was traded last week, mainly by exporters.

Guargum trend heavily depends on crude oil movement. Any strong rise in crude oil prices will help to revive demand for Guargum.
