Mumbai 15-April, (Commoditiescontrol) :Urad prices have declined in major North Indian markets, while South India maintains steady prices due to consistent demand. Burmese urad prices in Indian markets are down between Rs 25 and 100 per quintal, a trend attributed to the temporary closure of Myanmar markets for the water festival.

The Ministry of Agriculture reports a 9.5% increase in urad acreage (2.65 lakh ha), driven by growth in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. Sowing is nearly complete, with data updates likely to continue through May. The IMD's favorable monsoon forecast (106% of LPA) suggests an expansion of Kharif acreage.

Increased domestic arrivals and a surge in arrivals of pre-festival Burmese shippmetns are creating downward pressure on urad prices. As temperatures rise, demand is also expected to soften.
