MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - High moisture content has pulled down the pepper prices further on Wednesday.

According to trade sources the growers/traders/primary market dealers do not have adequate storage facilities for pepper and as a result the moisture content in the pepper has gone up significantly.

On the other hand, due to landslides and cloudbursts in Kerala's Idukki and Wayanad districts, roads have been damaged disrupting movement of vehicles. These factors have badly affected transportation of the commodity to the terminal market, they said.

On the terminal market 10 tonnes of pepper were traded. Five tonnes each from Pulpally and Bathery (Wayanad) and the high ranges were traded at ₹350 and ₹360 a kg respectively.

Spot prices dropped further by ₹100 a quintal to close at ₹35,800 (ungarbled) and ₹37,800 (garbled) a quintal.

Indian parity in the international markets was at $5,825  tonne c&f for Europe and $6,075 a tonne c&f for USA.
