Mumbai, May 30 (Commoditiescontrol):In the week leading up to May 22, French soft wheat maintained its stable condition, achieving its highest quality level in over a decade, according to data released by farm office FranceAgriMer on Friday.
The report from FranceAgriMer's weekly cereal report revealed that approximately 93% of the country's soft wheat remained in good or excellent condition, indicating no change from the previous week. This exceptional score is significantly higher than the 69% recorded at the same time last year and represents the highest rating for this period since FranceAgriMer began collecting data in 2011.
The favorable condition of French soft wheat can be attributed to regular showers experienced since March, which have replenished soil moisture levels after last summer's drought and an unusually dry winter. The recent sunny and warm weather is also expected to benefit crops in key northern plains, following a damp and chilly start to May. However, concerns persist among traders regarding the potential return of dry weather.
The positive trend extends beyond soft wheat, as ratings for winter and spring barley also remained unchanged from the previous week, with 90% and 95% respectively achieving good or excellent condition.
Furthermore, in its first rating for this year's grain maize crop, FranceAgriMer estimated that an impressive 94% of the crop was in good or excellent condition, surpassing the 90% recorded at the same time last year.
Farmers in France are nearing the completion of maize planting, with 95% of the projected area already drilled. However, due to rainy and cool weather conditions, planting progress still lags behind the five-year average at 97%.
