Mumbai, 03 Jan 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, is poised to unveil a groundbreaking portal tomorrow in New Delhi, significantly advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). This digital platform is tailored for tur (pigeon pea) farmers, a move that is set to revolutionize the pulse agriculture sector in India.

The portal is a strategic endeavor to empower tur producers by facilitating better pricing mechanisms through direct procurement by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF). It offers a streamlined process from farm to market, including direct bank transfers to farmers, thereby enhancing transparency and efficiency in the pulse procurement system. This is a significant leap towards bolstering domestic pulse production and reducing India's heavy reliance on imports.

In a move that is likely to have a considerable impact on market dynamics, the portal will ensure that registered farmers receive either the Minimum Support Price (MSP) or the prevailing market price, whichever is higher, for their produce. This approach guarantees farmers a fair and competitive pricing structure, potentially increasing their income and livelihood security.

The Tur Procurement Portal embodies the government's comprehensive strategy for an agricultural renaissance in India. This strategy is not limited to staple crops like wheat and rice but encompasses vital sectors like pulses and oilseeds, which are pivotal for the country's nutritional security and agricultural diversity.

The portal aims to streamline the entire value chain for tur growers in major production states, including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Jharkhand. It integrates registration, procurement, and payment processes onto a single, user-friendly platform. The portal, accessible at https://esamridhi.in, is designed to be multilingual, catering to the diverse linguistic landscape of the Indian farming community. It promises a seamless interface between farmers, NAFED, and government departments, enhancing access and participation.

One of the portal's most significant features is its commitment to purchase 80% of the buffer stock directly from farmers, a strategic move to reduce import dependency. This direct procurement model is anticipated to secure the nation's pulse production and fortify future food security.

Shri Amit Shah's address at the national symposium on self-reliance in pulses, coinciding with the portal launch, will further underline the initiative's importance in the broader context of Indian agriculture. The Tur Dal Procurement Portal is poised to be a catalyst in the journey towards comprehensive food self-reliance in India, marking a new chapter in the nation's agricultural policy and economic development. This initiative not only supports the livelihoods of millions of farmers but also represents a strategic pivot in India's agricultural policy, with implications for the pulse market, both domestically and globally.
