Mumbai, 6 July (Commoditiescontrol) Russia's chickpea exports have hit record levels, with May 2022/23 exports reaching an all-time high of 51.9 thousand metric tons (K mt), a 199% increase from May 2021/22. September-May MY 2022/23 also saw substantial growth, with exports totalling 316.8 thousand tons, marking a 63% year-on-year rise and the second highest recorded for this period.
Turkey and Pakistan remain the largest importers of Russian chickpeas, collectively accounting for 69% of total exports, up 24% from the previous year.
Despite overall export growth, certain key markets showed a decrease. Exports to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE fell by 19%, 22%, and 15% this season.
