MUMBAI, April 11 (Commoditiescontrol): In a significant boost to farmers across the country, the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has announced that a total of 743,207 metric tonnes of Gram (Chana) have been procured under the Rabi operations (PSS). The procurement is valued at Rs. 3,965 crores at the MSP rate of Rs. 5,335 per quintal.

According to data provided by NAFED, 389,619 farmers have benefited from the procurement operations, which were carried out in several states, including Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The state-wise data shows that the highest quantity of Gram was procured in Maharashtra, with 343,470.85 metric tonnes, followed by Gujarat, with 158,080.77 metric tonnes. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan also saw significant procurement, with 89,455.64 metric tonnes, 217.21 metric tonnes, and 404.40 metric tonnes, respectively.

The procurement has been carried out at MSP rates, a major relief for farmers grappling with falling prices in the open market. NAFED has been actively procuring agricultural commodities under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) to ensure farmers get remunerative prices for their produce.
The total MSP value of the Gram procured in Telangana is Rs. 268.02 crores, while in Gujarat it is Rs. 843.36 crores, in Karnataka it is Rs. 287.37 crores, in Maharashtra it is Rs. 1,819.45 crores, and in Andhra Pradesh, it is Rs. 255.75 crores. On the other hand, the MSP value for Uttar Pradesh is Rs. 1.16 crore, Madhya Pradesh is Rs. 477.25 crore, and Rajasthan is Rs. 2.16 crore.

NAFED has been working closely with state governments and various stakeholders to ensure that procurement operations are carried out smoothly and efficiently. The procurement of Gram under the PSS is expected to provide much-needed relief to farmers who have been struggling to make ends meet due to low prices in the open market.
