NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) – The heavy rainfall that lashed many districts of Madhya Pradesh has not caused any major loss to kharif crops like soybean and pulse seeds as reported earlier from trading sources.
According to the agriculture department of the state, no report regarding crop loss due to rains has been received so far from any area but wherever minor soybean or any other crop may have been washed away, the farmers will go for re-sowing once water recedes.
“There is no such report that rains have caused damages to kharif crops from any part of the state, said Premchand Meena,” Production Manager, Agriculture Department, MP on Monday.
However, he informed that nearly 10 percent area in Satna district is in spate where re-sowing will be required. Recent rainfall has helped in developing favourable condition to the crops as sowing is almost complete in Malwa region and no report regarding crop loss has been received from the area so far, added Meena.
He noted that that state government has targeted production of 101 lakh tonnes food grains for this kharif season.
Rains have lashed many parts of Madhya Pradesh last week where flood like situation is seen, said Dr Anupam Kashyapi, Director, India Met Department, Bhopal.
Districts of Jabalpur, Satna, Reeva, Sagar, Vidisha, Sehore, Raisen, Bhopal, Chatarpur, Panna, Betul, Narsingpur, Damoh, Chindwara, Seoni and Hosangabad are affected by downpour, he added. According to Kashapi, recent rainfall has been beneficial for paddy crop but it may have damaged nearly 15 percent of soybean crop in flood zone.
Rains received until last to last week in Madhya Pradesh was much below the average and due to less rainfall sowing was lagging but weather is favorable for kharif crop sowing now, he said.
As per weather forecast, rain will lessen after July 12 and sowing will intensify afterward, he anticipated. According to him, soybean crop has been affected in the area where its acreage is low as soybean is mainly grown in the area of Indore and Dewas where less rainfall is reported.
“No significant loss of soybean crop is assessed due to rains as of now, said a trader in Indore who deals in edible oil. According to him, demand for edible oil is expected to increase after arrival of monsoon, however, upward movement has not appeared but there is much possibility of firm trend ahead.
Nearly 54.50 percent area of Madhya Pradesh remains under kharif crops with 41 percent of grains, 21 percent pulse seeds and 27 percent oil seed crops.
