US cotton net export sales for Jan 4-11 at 420,000 RB, up 60 percent W/W

NEW DELHI, Jan 19: US cotton net sales were at 420,000 running bales (RB) for the week ended January 11 in the marketing year 2023/2024 starting August 1, up 60 percent from the previous week and 85 percent from the prior 4-week average.

US cotton net sales were at 262,500 RB for the week ended January 4.

Increases were primarily for China (227,700 RB), Vietnam (38,900 RB, including 100 RB switched from Japan), Pakistan (37,300 RB), India (21,000 RB), and Turkey (13,700 RB). Total net sales of 17,600 RB for 2024/2025 were for Guatemala.

Exports of 257,700 RB--a marketing-year high--were up 13 percent from the previous week and 15 percent from the prior 4-week average. The destinations were primarily to China (146,300 RB), Vietnam (18,200 RB), Pakistan (15,200 RB), Mexico (11,800 RB), and Honduras (10,300 RB).

Net sales of Pima totaling 3,500 RB for 2023/2024 were up 77 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were primarily for China (2,200 RB), Thailand (500 RB), Pakistan (400 RB), Guatemala (200 RB), and Brazil (100 RB).

Total net sales of 600 RB for 2024/2025 were for Italy. Exports of 4,600 RB were down 83 percent from the previous week and 54 percent from the prior 4-week average. The destinations were primarily to China (2,600 RB), Peru (1,000 RB), India (400 RB), Italy (400 RB), and Bangladesh (100 RB).

Optional Origin Sales: For 2023/2024, the current outstanding balance of 4,400 RB were reported for Bangladesh.

Exports for Own Account: For 2023/2024, new exports for own account totaling 300 RB were to China. Exports for own account totaling 10,400 RB to China (9,100 RB) and Vietnam (1,300 RB) were applied to new or outstanding sales. The current exports for own account outstanding balance of 86,500 RB are for China (64,700 RB), Vietnam (13,200 RB), Pakistan (5,000 RB), South Korea (2,400 RB), and Turkey (1,200 RB).
