Mumbai, October 19 (CommoditiesControl):In most primary Chana-growing regions across South, Central, and Northern India, predominantly dry weather conditions are observed. An exception is parts of Rajasthan where intermittent rainfall has been recorded over the past couple of days.The dry weather and higher temperatures have slowed down planting in these areas.However, because it's getting cooler at night and there's been some rain, planting will probably start in these major chana belt soon.
In Karnataka, sowing has already begun, albeit at a subdued pace, due to persistent dry conditions and elevated temperatures. Despite this, it's anticipated that the acreage for this season will surpass that of the last. Conversely, in Maharashtra, the projected acreage is poised to be smaller. This projection stems from the state government's recommendation to curtail acreage in light of diminished soil moisture levels. Meanwhile, both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are witnessing lower soil moisture levels which are projected to shift some acreage from wheat to Chana. The recent showers in Rajasthan, on the other hand, are expected to boost Chana acreage in the state.
On a broader scale, the total acreage for Chana this season is forecasted to fluctuate within a margin of +/-2% relative to the previous season. Excluding Maharashtra, an upward trend in land allocation for Chana cultivation is anticipated across regions. It's worth noting that extended rainy periods might spur a greater increase, while prolonged dry spells could lead to a sharper decline in acreage.
