MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Cotton Association of India, trade body estimates cotton production of 375 lakh bales of 170 kg each in 2016-17, up by 11.19 percent over the previous year.
CAI has cut production estimates by 2 lakh bales at 55 lakh bales for North Zone and by 1 lakh bales in Central Zone, but reduction there was offset by 3 lakh bales hike in estimates for South Zone at 103 lakh bales.
The association has estimated cotton arrivals in the country so far this season (Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2017) at 147.75 lakh bales. However the data compiled by commoditiescontrol (Oct 1 to Dec 29, 2017) from trade sources sum up arrivals at 102 lakh bales. Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) pegged season arrivals up to Dec 27, 2017 at 106 lakh bales.
