MUMBAI(Commoditiescontrol) – India cotton shipments touched 66.18 lakh bales during the 2016-17 marketing year(Oct-Sept), rose 5.3 percent from 62.87 lakh bales in 2015/16 marketing year.
Shipments was 44 percent higher during the month of September to 0.88 lakh bales compared to same month last year at 0.61 lakh bales while declined 40 percent from 1.46 lakh bales during August.
Major cotton was exported to Bangladesh at 0.66 lakh bales, claiming nearly 75 percent of the total export volume followed by Vietnam at 0.07 lakh bales(8%) and Thailand at 0.05 lakh bales(6%). This could be said as a routine demand as the neighbouring countries found it cheaper to import cotton from India compared to the season’s competitor US.
