JAIPUR (Commoditiescontrol) - Prices of Canadian lentil (masoor dal) may rise this year, as projected by The Agriculture and Agri Food Canada (AAFC) in its latest report for crop year 2014-15. According to the report, lentil prices are expected to remain between $535-565 per tonne. Last year average prices were at $445 per tonne. AAFC said that lentil prices will remain between $560-590 per tonne in next year 2015-16.
AAFC said that prices for peas and gram may also increase in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Peas prices may increase to $240-270 in 2014-15 and $230-260 per tonne in 2015-16. It was recorded at $260 per tonne in 2013-14. Besides dried pea, prices of chana may also increase between $480-510 per tonne during year 2014-15 and 2015-16. Last year, chana was sold at average price of $500 per tonne.
AAFC informed that production of pea, lentil and chana may fall in Canada in 2014-15. Lentil production is expected at 18.37 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 which was 21.73 lakh tonnes during the last year. Likewise, dried pea production may fall to 34.45 lakh tonnes from 39.61 lakh tonnes. Chana production is expected at 1.31 lakh tonnes from 1.77 lakh tonnes of last year. Canada may export 29 lakh tonnes dried pea and 70,000 tonnes chana during 2014-15. Last year, the export was 27.79 lakh tonnes and 48 lakh tonnes respectively.
