Burma Lemon Tur: Tur Lemon variety of Burma-origin traded higher by Rs 200 to Rs 5,800/100Kg, in Mumbai on mill buying and negligible ready stock of Burma origin Tur. Similarly, domestic variety of Tur gained Rs 100 at Rs 6,100-6,150/100Kg at benchmark market Akola. Arrivals of new Tur in domestic market continue to be below expectations. New Tur crop was expected to be lesser as compared to last year, due to fewer yields because of wilt attacks and weather concerns. However, demand and sale counters in Tur dal reported limited action due to less consumption in dal due to availability of cheaper. Demand in dal is likely to improve from mid of February. Total 2.25-2.50 Lakh tonnes of imported Tur arrived in India from various origin against 4 lakh tonnes import quota given by government. Imported Tur stock yet to be imported is reported to be around 1 Lakh tonne. Meanwhile government is actively liquidating old procured stock in Karnataka. Millers and traders in Vidarbha belt of Maharashtra preferred to purchase Tur from Marathwada (Maharashtra) and Karnataka for immediate requirement of crushing as arrivals of new Tur are yet to pick pace. Flow of arrivals are likely to increase after 20th January. Government procurement is expected to begin in near future at MSP of Rs 6000/100Kg may support Tur prices. Chana Kantewala (Indore): Chana prices declined by Rs 200 at Rs 4,450-4,475/100Kg in Indore on thin mill buying activity. Demand and sale counter in Chana dal-besan reported dull. Regular changes in Nafed selling base prices and NCDEX future market pressurised the spot prices. Moreover, sowing is progressing well and was 3.49% higher at 109.14 lakh Ha on Jan 13 Vs 105.46 lakh Ha in the similar period last year. Nafed intends to sell the Chana stocks. New chana is expected to hit spot markets soon. We expect demand to emerge at lower levels. Key point in favour for higher buying in spot, is that majority of millers are currently at lower end of stocks due to end of season and massive fall in prices. Tanzania-origin Chana, in Mumbai, slipped Rs 75 at Rs 4,250-4,275/100Kg. Similarly, Russia and Sudan-origin Kabuli Chickpea prices traded lower by Rs 50-75 each, at Rs 4,375/100Kg and Rs 4,350-4,400, respectively, while dollar variety Chana ruled weak by Rs 200 at Rs 5,800-6,200/100Kg in Indore. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Indore origin Kabuli Chickpea remained firm due to local trade activity and also due to crop damage report because of recent rain and weather concerns in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh.
