New Delhi, March 04 (Commodities Control): Maize prices maintained a steady to firm trend across major centers on Saturday, driven by improved buying activities, providing continued support to the market.
In Maharashtra, maize prices in Jalgaon and Dhule held steady at INR 2350-2400 per quintal. Chhindwara saw prices trading with a positive bias at INR 2200-2270 per quintal, while ex-warehouse rates remained steady at INR 2300-2320 per quintal. With arrivals dwindling in the current scenario, expectations are high for further upward movement in maize prices in the near term.
Gulabbagh reported steady maize prices at INR 2400-2460 per quintal, witnessing an increase of INR 130 per quintal over the past 12-14 days, reaching the season's highest levels.
Despite some improved selling observed from stockists, the continuous uptrend in maize prices is anticipated to pause momentarily. The market has experienced significant price hikes in the past two weeks.
Looking ahead, weather conditions are poised to play a pivotal role in determining maize prices. A potential delay in the new crop due to unfavorable weather could further drive prices upward. Conversely, if no major changes in weather patterns occur, expecting a sharp rise in maize prices from the current levels may prove challenging.
