Mumbai, February 12 (Commoditiescontrol): Maize prices traded steadily, with current supplies adequately meeting demand. The decline in kharif arrivals provided support to prices, but the substantial stock position with buyers limited any significant gains.

In Maharashtra, maize prices remained almost steady at INR 2320 per quintal. Regular purchases were noted from poultry and ethanol buyers, while starch producers showed relatively slow buying activity, possibly influenced by the booking of a few imported cargoes.

In Tamil Nadu, prices held steady at INR 2370 per quintal due to active stocking, with expectations that markets in the region are likely to stabilize at these levels. Further price increases are not anticipated at the moment.

Kolkata and Kharagpur maize prices remained steady in the range of INR 2525-2550 per quintal over the past few days, with demand from bulk buyers reported to be relatively sluggish.

The arrival of Assam crop is expected to commence in the first week of March, while loading for shipments to other states is likely to begin in mid-March. Similarly, the West Bengal crop is anticipated to enter the market from late March, post-Holi festivities.

Overall, a significant correction in maize prices seems unlikely in the February period in these regions.
