NEW DELHI (Commodities control) Wheat prices slipped in Delhi but gained in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Wheat demand was weak as arrival improved to 7000 bags. However, other states received better demand. Flour mills were buying old wheat for their consumption. While, stockists were aggressively buying new wheat.

Mill quality wheat dropped Rs. 30 to Rs. 1880-1900 per quintal. Total arrival was slight better at 7000 bags in Delhi mandis. Traders said that demand from millers was weak so the prices fell pressure and came down. Enough supply from FCI’s warehouses and farmers dampened market sentiments. Flour millers were not in hurry for extra buying. They were buying just for immediately need.

On the other hand, Wheat prices gained up to Rs. 20 per quintal in mandis of Hadouti region of Rajasthan. Old wheat arrival was weak at about 4000 bags amid better demand from local flour mills. Similarly, old wheat improved Rs. 25 to Rs. 1675-1700 per quintal in Bhopal mandis. A local trader Mr. Manohar Khandelwal said that millers were buying old season wheat as they need to consume it till May. The mills were buying wheat for stocking but supply was not enough. As per estimate, Bhopal division has noted old wheat supply of around 9000-10000 bags. While, new wheat arrival was 12000 bags in Bhopal Division. However, the prices remained stable in Indore. According to traders, stockists were buying new wheat as they feel very reasonable prices as per compared to MSP of 1975 per quintal. Total new arrival was around 40000-45000 bags in entire Malwa region where new wheat supply began.

Kanpur mandis also noted higher prices as demand improved at lower prices. Mill quality wheat prices gained Rs. 20 to Rs. 1690-1700 per quintal. Market source said that wheat demand was strong as millers were buying aggressively. They wanted to create comfortable stocks for consumption in further months.
