Mumbai, 23 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Chana (chickpea) prices in consuming centers experienced a significant upswing, gaining Rs 50-100 per quintal following a period of decline. This rebound is attributed to robust demand and prices trading near the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in major markets.
Most markets, except for Rajasthan, were closed today in observance of Hanuman Jayanti. Prices in Rajasthan also surged as they had been trading below the MSP. Government MSP buying initiated in Rajasthan further bolstered prices in the state.
While domestic supply remains low, increased pea imports and arrivals in Rajasthan had previously exerted downward pressure on prices. However, the recent sharp drop has triggered expectations of government purchases, which are likely to support chana prices in the near term.
