Mumbai, 21 Mar 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Prices for Desi Masur (lentils) increased in major processing centersin bilty trade due to strong demand from dal mills. Mandi trade prices were mixed, reflecting variations in quality and arrival volumes.
In Lalitpur, high-quality arrivals with low moisture content led to price increases. However, prices fell by Rs 50-150 per quintal in major Madhya Pradesh markets due to the smaller grain size of arrivals.
Imported masur prices remained largely stable. Delhi markets saw a slight increase in Canadian masur prices due to good demand, while Australian masur prices dipped slightly in Kolkata. Due damaged desi masur crop due to weather-related impacts could keep demand and price of imported masur firm.
Masur prices are expected to trade within a range, influenced by ongoing domestic arrivals and continued demand. The higher landed cost of imported masur compared to domestic spot prices could slow import sales, supporting domestic prices. While downside risks appear limited, ample supply will likely prevent any significant price surge.
