Mumbai,20 Mar 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Kabuli chana (chickpea) prices in the Indore market saw a mixed trend today. Mandi trade prices held steady, while container trade declined due to reduced buying interest at higher levels. Mandi arrivals remained consistent with yesterday at around 6500 bags.
Prices for smaller Kabuli chana sizes in Indore decreased by Rs 200/quintal, with bolder sizes falling by Rs 100/quintal.
Trade sources attribute a reduced supply of large-size Kabuli chana this year to unfavorable weather during the growing season. Initial crop estimates suggested a significant increase, but trade figures now indicate a more modest 15-20% production rise. This has yet to fully impact market prices.
Farmers are holding their Kabuli crop in anticipation of higher prices. Stockists are expected to increase buying once prices become more attractive, having already declined 30-40% since season start. These factors suggest the potential for steady or even firmer prices, especially for larger Kabuli chana.
