Mumbai, 19 Mar 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Despite ample supplies in major markets, prices of moong (green gram) remain stable in response to strong demand across India. Further supporting prices is the excellent quality of arrivals, along with high demand for seeds in preparation for the summer sowing season.
Prices in benchmark market of Delhi rose by 50 rupees per quintal. However, the ongoing sale of moong by the government is expected to prevent any dramatic price increases.
According to the Gujarat Department of Agriculture, the acreage currently planted with moong is 28,598 hectares – lower than the 32,981 hectares during same period last year.
Analysts predict that prices should remain stable or even strengthen as a result of ongoing high demand. Increased summer sowing is expected to keep seed demand high, supporting the price.
