Mumbai, 19 Mar 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): White pea prices remained stable across Uttar Pradesh's major markets, reflecting balanced supply and demand. In contrast, green pea prices are rising sharply due to increased demand and limited supply.
Demand from southern India, particularly in areas like Lalitpur, is a key price driver. Green peas now command a significant premium of Rs 2,700-3,200 per quintal over white peas. In Kanpur, pre-Holi festival demand has pushed green pea transport prices up by Rs 25 per quintal.
Despite ample domestic production and imports, overall matar prices are likely to hold steady. The increased price of chana and tur, which have seen production shortfalls, is driving greater demand for matar as a more affordable substitute.
