Mumbai, 10 May 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Desi Masur prices in bilty trade have softened in major consumption centers following two days of firm trading. Local sources attribute it due to decrease in demand at higher price levels. However major mandi's remained closed due to Akshay Tritya.
Meanwhile, the price of Canadian-origin red lentils (CIF) in Mumbai remains stable, ranging between $715-720 per metric ton (MT). Prices at the Kolkata port are slightly higher, ranging between $725-730 per MT for immediate delivery.
Despite ample supply of masur held by traders, farmers, and the government, the anticipation of government procurement at higher minimum support price (MSP) levels has caused farmers to withhold stock, resulting in a decline in domestic arrivals and a short-term supply shortfall.
Market analysts predict that prices are unlikely to sustain current levels unless the government initiates large-scale masur procurement at MSP.
