Mumbai, 10 May 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Kabuli chana prices in major mandis remained stable this week due to lower arrivals. Trading activity was subdued due to the Akshay Tritiya holiday. However, container prices in Indore fell by Rs 100 per quintal across all calibers due to weak demand.
Market analysts expect Kabuli prices to remain range-bound in the near term. While prices have fallen sharply since the start of the season, downside potential is limited at current levels. Demand remains subdued as stockists are reluctant to take large positions given ample supply.
Export demand is also weak due to competition from international origins such as Canada and Mexico, which offer better quality at competitive prices. However, local stockist demand is expected to improve ahead of the start of the Indian festival season in August whihc should support prices.
