Mumbai, 07 May 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Kabuli prices in Madhya Pradesh's major mandis moved higher on Tuesday, due to strong demand despite lower arrivals. According to local traders, arrivals are declining, and there have been reports of export demand, which is supporting prices.

Meanwhile, drop in arrival of Desi Chana or chickpea at Indore market has effect broader auction market operation as well. During the auction, price increased Rs 400 to Rs 10,850 per quintal. At the lower level, there was a fall of Rs 100 to quote at Rs 8,000 per quintal.

Today in Dhamnod Mandi of Madhya Pradesh, arrival jumped by 540 quintals to 4,410 quintals. The price was at the lower level with an increase of Rs 500 to Rs 9,000 per quintal. However, due to lack of good quality, the price of chickpea dropped by Rs 160 from the upper level to Rs 10,295 per quintal.

Arrivals of Kabuli Chana at Indore Mandi were reported at 4,200 bags, a decrease from 5,200 bags the previous session. Overall, arrivals in Madhya Pradesh's Kabuli growing belts were estimated to be between 18,000 and 20,000 bags, a decrease of 4,000 to 5,000 bags from the previous session.

At Karahi market, arrival declined by 100 quintals to 1200 per quintal due to which the price went up by Rs 185 to Rs 8890 per quintal. Prices dropped by Rs 75 from upper level to Rs 10445 per quintal. Badnagar mandi reported of 875 quintals Kabuli gram to trade in the range of Rs 5,488 to Rs 10,680 per quintal. In Anjad, arrival of 868 quintals reported and were offered between Rs 8,750 to Rs 10,170 per quintal.

Export quality Kabuli gram remained at Rs 12800 per quintal. There was stability in the container.

Kabuli prices in Canada for 9 mm and 7 mm were reported as USD 868 and USD 758 per MT, respectively, and were said to be lower by $2 per MT from the previous week.

According to experts, the demand from exporters for Kabuli gram is weak. Local traders informed that the prices are not holding up at higher levels, leading to pessimism among stockists. Furthermore, because the wedding season is shorter, domestic demand is expected to be low.
