Mumbai, April 29 (Commodities Control): Prices for certain varieties of chillies experienced increases in Khammam and Guntur, while prices for Teja and 341 varieties declined in Warangal. Despite nearly identical arrivals over the past two weeks, increasing demand has maintained price stability. Demand is anticipated to strengthen further, particularly at lower price levels, as current prices are at multi-year lows.

Guntur markets reported arrivals of 85,000 bags, marking a substantial increase of 30,000 bags from the previous session. Warangal observed arrivals of 25,000 bags, up by 5,000 bags, while Khammam reported stable arrivals at 10,000 bags compared to the previous session.

Meanwhile, domestic demand remains hand-to-mouth, with export demand showing limited growth, leading to price constraints. Despite a significant drop from multi-year lows, prices are projected to remain stable or firm in the forthcoming sessions.

In February, chilly exports totaled 67,998 metric tons, reflecting a decrease of 9.4%, primarily attributed to reduced exports to Bangladesh, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. Notably, exports to Bangladesh witnessed a significant decline of 24%, totaling 6,953 metric tons. However, cumulative exports from April to February recorded a year-on-year increase of 2.8%, reaching 3.93 lakh tons.
