Mumbai, 25 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Domestic masur prices experienced an increase in key Indian markets due to a significant drop in arrivals. This decline in supply is attributed to the combination of currently low market prices and farmers' preference to sell their produce to the government at the higher Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Markets in Ganj Basoda and Beena witnessed price gains between Rs 50-100 per quintal.
Meanwhile, Canadian-origin red lentils CIF Mumbai declined by $10 per MT, currently trading at $730-735 per MT. Prices for Kolkata remained unchanged at $730-$735 per MT.
While lower supply is expected to maintain steady to firm domestic masur prices, analysts caution that unless the government begins purchasing at MSPs, a sharp price increase is unlikely. On the contrary, prices may decline from current levels.
