Mumbai, April 24 (CommoditiesControl): Small cardamom prices experienced a downturn following six months of increased arrivals, with increased supply exerting downward pressure on prices.

The surge in arrivals stimulated a corresponding rise in prices across spot markets. However, today's demand is anticipated to be relatively subdued, given that prices breached the Rs 2,000 mark in the previous session. The influx of arrivals can be attributed to stockists liquidating their holdings.

Arrivals witnessed a significant uptick, totaling 125,452 kg compared to 111,582 kg in the preceding session. Concurrently, offtake surged to 120,776 kg from 111,096 kg, driven by robust demand and augmented arrivals. Notably, the offtake rate stood at an impressive 96.3% due to strong demand.

The average price per kilogram ranged between Rs 1,886 and Rs 1,925, marking a decline from the previous session's range of Rs 1,932 to Rs 2,007 per kg. Furthermore, the highest reported price dipped to Rs 3,009 per kg, down from Rs 3,092 per kg recorded previously.

Despite the overall decline in prices, grade-specific rates remained consistent. Prices for 7 mm grades ranged from Rs 1,740 to Rs 1,820 per kg, while grades 7-8 mm commanded Rs 1,920 to Rs 2,000 per kg. Similarly, prices for grades 8 mm and above were reported between Rs 2,200 and Rs 2,360 per kg.
