Mumbai, March 28 (Commodities Control): Pepper prices in major domestic markets and Vietnam have reported stability. In the domestic market, pepper prices have shown signs of recovery, increasing by Rs 2,000 per quintal from previous lows. Despite this, prices have witnessed a significant decline of nearly Rs 16,000 per quintal from their peak levels, primarily due to subdued export demand.

Garbled pepper prices in Cochin quoted at Rs 53,900 per quintal, with ungarbled peppers priced at Rs 51,900. In Karnataka, prices ranged between Rs 52,000 and Rs 54,000 per quintal.

The Ministry of Commerce's release of EXIM figures for January indicates a notable increase in exports, totaling 1,770 MT, representing a 42% rise. This surge is attributed to stronger imports from the United States and the European Union. However, from April to January, exports registered a 9.0% decrease, amounting to 13,627 MT. Imports stood at 2,660 MT, with higher imports recorded from Sri Lanka.

In Vietnam, pepper prices have remained stable at a record high of VND 92,500 to 96,000 per kg, marking a significant 35% increase compared to the previous year. However, prices are expected to face pressure as arrivals peak. Global FOB prices show a mixed trend, with Indonesia experiencing a slight decrease.
