Mumbai, 27 Mar 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Amid limited demand and a slowdown in arrivals, Kabuli chana (chickpea) prices in the Indore mandi have held steady. Traders attribute this to reduced trade activity due to many market yet to resume normal trade activity post Holi festival and upcoming financial year-end.

Arrivals at the Indore mandi were reported at 3,000 bags, a significant decrease compared to previous trading sessions. Overall arrivals across major Kabuli growing regions in Madhya Pradesh are estimated to be between 15,000 and 18,000 bags, marking a 25,000 to 27,000 bag reduction.

Container prices for all counts have fallen by approximately Rs 100 per quintal, reflecting the weaker demand as the fiscal year closes.

Interestingly, this season has seen a higher production of smaller grain size Kabuli chana, while the supply of large size varieties is expected to be lower. This trend is likely to stabilize prices for larger Kabuli chana and could even lead to a wider price differential between large and small varieties.
