Mumbai, March 22 (CommoditiesControl): Small cardamom prices in major markets experienced a slight decline, primarily attributed to subdued demand at higher price levels and increased arrivals, which have surpassed 1.0 lakh kg following several sessions of low arrivals.
The average price per kilogram decreased from Rs 1,506-1,563 in the previous session to Rs 1,461-1,564, with the maximum price per kilogram dropping from Rs 2,074 to Rs 1,974. After a month of remaining below Rs 1,500, the average price rose above Rs 1,500 per kg in the second session.
Grade-specific rates appear to be stable, with prices for 7 mm grades ranging from Rs 1,560 to Rs 1,650 per kg, Rs 1,700 to Rs 1,740 per kg for grades 7-8 mm, and Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,140 per kg for grades 8 mm and up.
Arrivals saw a dramatic increase, surpassing 1.0 lakh kgs after remaining low for the previous 4-5 sessions. Arrivals surged to 112,377 kg from 83,345 kg in the previous session, contributing to an improved total offtake of 109,990 kg compared to 81,800 kg previously. Despite the recent price drop, demand remained strong, with a daily offtake of 97.8%.
Overall, market trends indicate a delicate balance between supply and demand in the small cardamom market, with prices experiencing a slight decline amidst increased arrivals but robust demand.
