Indonesia has authorized substantial mining production quotas this year, including 152.62 million metric tons of nickel ore and 44,481.63 tons of tin ore. Approvals have been granted to 191 miners across nickel, tin, copper, and other sectors, with over 500 proposals still pending. The government has also issued quotas totaling 99.24 million tons of copper ore and 15.88 million tons of bauxite.
The timeframe for these quotas remains unspecified. Indonesia recently extended mining quota validity from one year to three. However, changes this year in the approval system have caused delays, interrupting exports and driving up global prices for nickel and tin in the first two months of 2024.
