Mumbai, 13 Mar 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Matar prices across most major Uttar Pradesh markets have remained stable. However, Kanpur and Lalitpur saw increases of Rs 50-125 per quintal (UP/MP line) due to improved festive demand and recent price dips. Market participants note that dry weather contributes to better quality, supporting prices.
Harvesting is nearly finished, and with the recent dry weather, the majority of the crop has been harvested, with yields and quality both reported to be lower, which is likely to keep prices in the broader range, with high quality fetching higher prices and low-quality selling at substantial discount to higher quality.
Imported matar prices at major ports have softened after a period of stability. The reduced gap between domestic and imported prices should support imported prices. Additionally, crop losses from recent rains and increased demand from besan manufacturers (due to rising chana prices) are predicted to keep prices steady.
