Ahmedabad, March 11 (CommoditiesControl): The arrival of coriander in Gujarat continues to surge. Demand from spice companies and exports has contributed to the upward movement in prices. On this day, a price increase of Rs 20-40 was noted in the state. Gondal Mandi, however, has been closed for new arrivals for the last four days due to a lack of space, and new arrivals are expected to commence later today. It is anticipated that more than 1 lakh bags, each weighing 40 kg, of coriander may arrive on Tuesday, with an estimated 1.50 lakh bags expected to arrive the mandi.

Today witnessed the arrival of around 1,00,000 bags of coriander in the state, with an average price ranging from Rs 1,450 to Rs 1,950 per 20 kg.

Traders highlight the possibility of a production volume of approximately 40 lakh bags in Gujarat. So far, only 4-5 lakh bags have arrived, potentially leading to a shortage in arrivals until April. Subsequent market trends will depend on the coriander crop in Madhya Pradesh. The Federation of Indian Spice Stakeholders reports a estimated decline of 47 lakh bags in coriander arrivals this year compared to the previous year.

Last year, Gujarat's production reached around 39,58,776 bags, decreasing to 70,37,915 bags in 2024. In Madhya Pradesh, last year's production was approximately 70,57,633 bags, dropping to 60,36,231 bags in 2024. Rajasthan's production, which was around 21,52,533 bags last year, has decreased to 16,01,895 bags in 2024. Overall, the production figures for this year indicate a decrease of about 1,15,96,901 bags compared to the previous year.

In Gondal today, arrivals were closed, with only 15,000 bags pending from yesterday being traded at prices ranging from Rs 1,676 to Rs 2,201 per 20 kg. The closure of Gondal has led traders to go to the Rajkot mandi to sell goods, resulting in higher arrivals. Rajkot Mandi recorded arrivals of over 20,000 bags today, with prices ranging from Rs 1,411 to Rs 1,880. Additionally, other markets, such as Halvad, Dhangadhra, Jetpur, Jamjodhpur, Junagadh, Amreli, Jamnagar, and nearby areas, have also witnessed significant arrivals.
