Small Cardamom Prices Continue to Rise; Mixed Cues for Large Cardamom

Mumbai, February 29 (Commodities Control): Cardamom prices in major markets experienced a slight uptick driven by high demand, particularly from the export sector. Over the past 2-3 sessions, export demand has been robust, contributing to a marginal increase in prices.

Compared to the previous session, the average price per kilogram for small cardamom rose to Rs 1,519-1,530 from Rs 1,473-1,566. Although the maximum price per kilogram witnessed a decline from Rs 2,125 to Rs 1,975, the overall average price crossed the Rs 1,500 per kg mark after a period of 7-8 sessions, indicating a positive trend due to increased demand.

Grade-specific rates witnessed an upward movement by Rs 30-50 per kg, aligning with the overall price rise. Prices for 7 mm grades ranged from Rs 1,520 to Rs 1,600 per kg, 7-8 mm grades were priced between Rs 1,650 to Rs 1,740 per kg, and grades 8 mm and higher commanded prices in the range of Rs 1,980 to Rs 2,050 per kg.

Arrivals increased from 93,053 kg to 116,257 kg compared to the previous session, reflecting the unpredictable nature of arrivals over the past month. Despite the rise in arrivals, the total offtake surged from 93,053 kg to 114,678 kg in the previous session due to lower arrivals. The daily offtake rate stood at a robust 98.6%.



For large cardamom in major East and North East markets, prices reported mixed cues. Chotadana prices saw a decline by Rs 25-50 per kg, while Badadana prices increased by Rs 12 per kg since the last auction. Chotadana prices ranged between Rs 1,025 and Rs 1,680 per kg, while Badadana prices were reported between Rs 1,250 and Rs 1,450 per kg.
