NEW DELHI (Commodities control) Rice trade remained very thin in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi due to farmers’ agitation disruption in transportation. Delhi and Haryana police has sealed northern borders of Delhi from where farmers were trying to enter in the capital.
Prices were also unchanged in across the markets of north India. Domestic and export demand was weak so millers were unable to raise prices. 1509 rice was quoted higher on Thursday in Karnal but lower demand dragged down prices at previous level.
Farmers from Congress governed Punjab have launched a campaign for Delhi Chalo against central Farm laws. The agitation has disrupted normal transportation between Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. There was clear impact on rice trade due to the agitation. A trader from Delhi told that traders and millers were avoiding to transport any consignment. New trade deals also reduced in such scenario.
