Mumbai (Commodities Control) - Spot jeera prices surged Rs 30 per 20 Kgs in Unjha mandi amid reduced arrivals, while prices were unchanged at Rajkot mandi as compared with the last session. Jeera futures skyrocketed tracking postive spot Cues.

Spot jeera prices were muted on Tuesday after a mixed price session Monday, where prices dropped Rs 20 per 20 kgs in Unjha and rose Rs 20 at Rajkot mandi, for all the varieties.

Meanwhile, the futures market zoomed higher, extending Tuesday’s price gains, as November futures settled Rs 225 higher at Rs 14,410 per Quintal. December futures settled Rs 255 higher at Rs 14,550.

The most active contract closed higher, even on Tuesday. Experts reveal that jeera has sufficient supply in the market ahead of the commencement of sowing, but strong export demand and likely fall in the acreage in 2020-21 (Oct-Sep) rabi season continue to aid price rise.

Off Late, arrivals increased sharply as farmers offloaded old stocks before the commencement of sowing. Jeera sowing has started in small pockets in Gujarat, it is likely to gather pace from mid November.

Unjha mandi reported arrivals of 15,000 bags vs 17,000 bags in the last session. Rough variety of Jeera was priced at Rs. 2265-2315 per 20 kg. NCDEX Jeera was priced at Rs. 2315-2415 per 20 kg in the same mandi. Bombay Bold was quoted at Rs. 2615-2715 per 20 kg.
